Tony Johnston is a business executive whose strength is strategy evaluation & development, tactics formulation, and operational execution.  Trained in large company sophisticated business practices and very experienced in leading sales and marketing teams, directing operations staff, and meeting the financing needs of small and mid-sized companies in their day-to-day fast paced realities, Tony has built an enviable record of accomplishment in B2B company settings throughout his career.

Tony founded Compass North Inc. in 2001 after having held a number of CEO, CFO and other top management positions in private and publicly-traded manufacturing, technology, biotechnology, commercial banking and financial services companies. Since that time, he has helped a wide range of technology, manufacturing, commercial as well as industrial clients successfully achieve their objectives in the course of completing turnaround management, contract executive, and management consulting assignments.

Tony's accomplishments include: leading five corporate turnarounds; increasing a public company's value by over $66 million; delivering a $28 million gain for venture capital partners; transacting more than $2.5 billion in public and private debt, equity and M&A transactions; and organizing successful new ventures in Biotechnology, Mortgage Servicing, and Consulting.

Tony’s breadth of experience includes serving as board chair for VC-backed technology firm, leading rapid growth and turnaround situations, advising family businesses, managing complex legal matters, cultivating business development opportunities, directing large accounting and treasury operations, organizing and growing early-stage companies, and negotiating and closing numerous major acquisition and divestiture transactions.

Tony holds an MBA degree from York University's Schulich School of Business, a BA (Economics) from Queen's University, and a CGA professional accounting designation.
